Violent love story

AT A time when love stories with new faces are bombing in Tamil, "Jeyam" has opened well. The film is a remake of Teja's Telugu hit by the same name. It is a mish-mash of various old Hindi and Tamil love stories of the Eighties where a rich girl falls in love with a poor guy and fearing parental opposition they elope, with the villain and his gang close on heels, which leads to a bloody climax. The story is old wine in new bottle, but the presentation is making the film interesting. "Jeyam" is produced by veteran film editor Mohan, who is known for remaking Malayalam and Tamil hits in Telugu. After 17 years, Mohan has now made a Tamil film to launch his sons Ravi and Raja as the hero director, respectively.

In an era, where attitude equals acting, debutant Ravi is cool and camera-friendly along with Telugu heroine Sada who has screen presence. The villain Gopichand who played the same role in the Telugu original is riveting.
