A murder contract for...

Watch out for `Supari', a film produced and directed by Padam Kumar.

DOWNWARD SPIRAL: Caught in a web of crime.

MERE MENTION of the word supari (not to be confused with the betel nut) is terrifying enough to send cold shivers down the spine. Isn't it underworld jargon? Haven't we heard people say it in films? Now a Supari will shortly be entering the theatres to petrify you. It's the name of the movie, which would be released shortly. And the promos are already on telly.

A film by Padam Kumar with a catchline `Your time starts now'. The film is about today's youth, their desires and wants and the extent they go to achieve them.

It's about four people - Aryan (Uday Chopra), Papad (Rahul Dev), Chicken (Purab Kohli) and Mushy (Akash Saigal) who want easy money. They place a heavy sum of money on a bet, which they lose. They do not have money and in this hour Aryan takes the help of Pandit, the paanwallah who helped them place the bet.

The hostile Pandit suggests a meeting with Mamta Sekhri (Nandita Das). She, in turn, offers Aryan a gun and a cover photograph for a contract killing (supari).

Aryan loses his composure but agrees to the murder spurred by Mamta's contempt. This opens the path to the transformation of the foursome. Death, for them, is now a fascinating game. They get addicted to the power, which corrupts them. In this situation can death be far behind? Aryan loses Chicken. Will Aryan and the others eventually get out of this mess?

Uday Chopra essays a role different from the lover-boy image he has played before. The person to be watched is Nandita Das - whose character has a mysterious enigma. And Nandita portrays this `grey' character competently. The music by Vishal and Shekhar is attuned to the genre of the film.

Catch the suspense on the big screen shortly.
