NGO appeals
WITH ANTI-Tobacco Day (May 31) round the corner, and with the World Health Organisation getting louder with its appeal, Crusade Against Tobacco, an NGO in India, we hear, has come up with a novel idea to exhort to the celluloid world. Two popular faces Shah Rukh Khan and Rajnikanth have been chosen to reflect upon their `smoking' scenes in films and asked to refrain from doing such roles that would send `unhealthy' messages to their huge fan following.
Interestingly, Vincent Nazareth, president of the NGO is reported to have pointed out that Shah Rukh is seen smoking in 109 scenes in 12 years of acting, while the South Indian superstar closely follows with 103.
Incidentally, Shah Rukh, who won the Best Actor Award at IIFA, was conspicuously missing among the glitterati gathered at Johannesburg as he is recovering from a complicated cervical surgery. "I will be back soon," says the workaholic with grit, who has his call sheets full, but Shah Rukh should remember to steer clear of scenes that glamorise the use of the carcinogen!
