Dubbing dilemma

THE JET Li and DMX combo film "Cradle 2 The Grave", releasing this Friday, is a veritable tossed salad of vintage Hollywood action plus martial arts and is a great entertainer. The movie packs in a sting with its superbly choreographed action scenes. However, Warner Brothers, distributors of "Cradle 2

The Grave", and other English film distributors are reportedly worried that the State Government's decision to increase entertainment tax from 25 per cent to 50 per cent for dubbed films, may sound the death knell for the booming dubbing industry.

The Government's argument is that dubbed Hollywood films are becoming a threat to the Tamil films.

But today, nearly 30 per cent of the 2,500-odd cinemas in the State make a living out of dubbed films.
