The Spice is for those who want space around them while indulging in gastronomic pleasures.
SPICY TREAT: A welcoming façade.
THERE IS nothing spicy about the place - `The Spice'. Unspoilt white interiors, minimal décor and a tolerable fare characterise this new eating station (First floor, Meridian Plaza, Ameerpet).
The restaurant is for those who want space around them while indulging in gastronomic pleasures. Constructed in a massive area of about 1000 sq. ft, The Spice (vegetarian) - is perhaps one of the few eateries around town, which can boast of being `big' (in size).
Well-lit inside, the functional eating-place can seat about 80 people in all. Although not quite often, do you get to see it teeming with life.
"It is new and people are not yet aware of its existence," says restaurant manager P.S. Rao. "But it will soon catch up as a rage, for the great taste and high-degree of hygiene," he adds.
For all those who enjoy eating without much noise and crowd, The Spice is the answer, the manager continues.
The `Pure-Veg' menu card does look interesting in parts although the fare offered is common, going by the contents. In addition to the regular stuff - Idli (Rs. 10), Dosa (Rs. 16 - Rs. 20), Manchuria (Rs. 45 - Rs. 60), Paneer Masala or Malai Kofta (Rs. 60) and Veg. Biryani (Rs. 50), one can expect to find a lot of lassuni (garlic) items among others. Lasagne, however, finds a miss despite the menu boldly announcing the availability of Italian/Mexican items.
One can start off with a soup of his/her choice (priced between Rs. 30 and Rs. 40) even though a casual overlook will not mean a much of a loss. The starters are limited yet offer a great taste (Paneer tikka, Hariyali kebab and Sabz sheekh kebab).
PEACE IN PLATTER: For a quiet meal.
The Chinese assortment of items has been innovatively categorised as "From across the Great Wall" and includes a surfeit of Manchurian eats and noodles. Among the lassuni savouries in the `North Indian platter' are Lasunni paneer, tarkari, kofta and subzi. Makai Shimla palak, Lachlee aloo and Paneer chutneywala are the perennial favourites one must try out.
In parathas, the one's worth trying out are, Cheese naan (Rs. 20), Pudina paratha, (Rs. 18), Lacchadar, and Methi paratha (Rs. 18). Options are limited for sweets with only three or four varieties available.
