United colours of food

The Holi food festival at Promenade in Aditya Park Inn offers an opportunity to savour the different cuisines from across the country.

IF YOU did not have your fill of colour and intoxicants (rang and bhang darlings) post Holi, head for the Promenade at Aditya Park Inn (55788888) at Ameerpet (opposite Global Trust Bank) for the on-going Holi Food Festival.

The raison d'etre for the festival according to Kartik Krishna Moorthy, Asst F&B Manager is "Holi is celebrated across India. Like Diwali, it is truly pan-Indian. Usually one would do a food festival of a particular region, which would be limiting. Here we are celebrating the cuisine of India. We are catering to everyone. Hyderabad with its cosmo crowd is ready to try out new cuisines."

The advertising campaign for the food festival was novel as well with a camel carrying the banner being paraded in and around Ameerpet.

Chef Abbas, who is handling the festival, is widely travelled and has put his vast knowledge and experience into whipping up the delicacies. Chefs across the 26 Park hotels have also been consulted for their special recipes, methods and techniques.

The theme of Colourful India finds echoes in the décor where vivid cloth streamers are entwined along the balustrades and bandhini turbans are artistically placed in nooks and corners.

The festival buffet serves a mind-boggling 16 main course dishes, six salads, seven desserts and a soup and each dish comes from a different State.

So you would have Artikai Vepudu, Dahi Baingan from Andhra, Vegetable Makhan Masala from Punjab, Vegetable Poriyal from the south, Potato do Pyaza from Uttar Pradesh, Safed Maas from Rajasthan, lip smacking Chettinad meen kolumbu and Anda Tamatar Kut (egg curry).

WELCOMING FAÇADE: The central location is a bonus.

The sweet side is represented with Khubani ka Meetha (no prizes for guessing where this comes from!), a sinfully calorific combination of Gulab Jamoon and Rabdi, Raj bhog and an assorted platter of cookies and a trifle pudding.

And the menu is changed everyday. In addition to the wide menu, there is a chaat counter and cocktails and mocktails as well. The buffet including a welcome drink and snacks (veg and non veg) costs Rs 222.

Mocktails to try out include Minty lemonade and Chilling Green (a combination of vanilla ice cream and mango juice. In the cocktails, the Orange Carnival (vodka and orange juice) and the Promenade Special (whisky, sugar, black coffee, fresh cream, bitter and crushed ice) find favour.

The festival is on for dinner (7.30 pm to 11.00 pm) till March 31.

So if you feel the colours of Holi have been scorched out by the sizzling summer, head for Promenade and indulge your sense.
