An icy delight

Have an unlimited helping of over 30 flavours of Ice cream at Gallopin' Gooseberry for Rs 111.

SCOOP IT UP: More than 30 flavours to choose from.

I SCREAM. You scream. We all scream for Ice cream! In Gallopin' Gooseberry (tel: 55686444) at Banjara Hills, the scream is louder and the cream as much, richer and frothier. The ongoing `Ice-cream festival' at the American-Italian eatery has found a swarming clientele, - furiously scooping out spoon after spoon, for hours on end.

As you juggle between the two options: is it a `Who eats the most' competition, or have the people been starved for four-and-a-half days, emerges Sudhakar Peravali - the managing partner of the swanky cafeteria, with a tall glass of Rum-n-raisins. "Neither," he says nonchalantly.

"It is an unlimited Ice cream buffet out here. Eat as much as you can for Rs 111," he continues, helping himself with another deep scoop. Now that explains the mad-rush.

More than 30 flavours - each as tempting as the other, so much that you are confused whether you can sustain the appetite till the 30th or will you be stone-ice by the time you are through with the 10th.

CHILL OUT: Rush to Gallopin' Gooseberry for a cool time.

No, history doesn't have any written records of people dying of ice cream over dosage!

Let's take a look at the menu. The standby's are popular; vanilla, strawberry and chocolate have always been favourites for sheer lack of option or choice.

They are joined by many new tastes like, Pina chikky, Mexican honey almond, Rose, Kesar pista and Berry bonanza. "There are even newer flavours like, Peppermint, Tango, Choco Roco, White Russian, Chocolate chip, Almond fig, Mango feast, Caramel nuts, Lonavli and Pina litchie, amongst a dozen others," concurs Sudhakar. Of course, these flavours have been made exclusively for us by Scoops, he asserts.

For those who do the dew, there is no dearth of gastronomic deviations here! There is Holy Cow - a chocolate and butterscotch ice-cream praline, nuts, chocolate chips and butterscotch sauce, Django Jelly - an assortment of jellies with mango, vanilla and pista ice cream, topped with strawberry crush, Southern belle - a combo of Mexican almond and Chocolate ice cream with Chocolate sauce and nuts and Tipsy Mc Stagger - Black forest cake with Rum & raisins and White Russian ice creams, topped with chocolate sauce and even a combo of all these.

CREAMY SPREAD: Unlimited ice cream for Rs. 111.

For die-hard Hyderabadis, there is Charminar - Four minars of Ice cream, four flavours of sauces topped with whipped cream.

Spell Sundaes and the lips smack a yummm! Single Sundae entitles you to a choice of any regular scoops with toppings, a Double Sundae comes with two regular scoops of your choice with toppings.

Guess what comes in a Triple Sundae?

"People can make their own Sundaes here," chips in Sudhakar. Indulge in as many toppings, scoop it out yourself, sauce it up, and sprinkle chocolate bits or nuts or raisins, lace it with rum if you want to and your Sundae is ready. "So, go ahead and experiment. It's all yours," - says the managing partner.

With the mercury rising alarmingly, how about spending this Sunday by your own Sundaes. So gallop your way, the Ice cream fest ends on March 24. Eat as much as you can from the bottomless Everest of Ice cream inside Gallopin' Gooseberry, until you get a Death by strawberry.
