Westward bound

It was a warm farewell party for the westward bound Chaser at the Underdeck, Taj Banjara.

FAREWELL ACT: Arindam `Chaser' Chakraborty mixes a cocktail.

HE IS the chaser who pursues his dream and is off to a higher ground, and a party to bid him farewell was apt.

The person in question Arindam Chakraborty better known by his title Chaser, In charge Underdeck, Taj Banjara was wanted alive and mixing on February 25, before he galloped away to the West--Insomnia, Taj Mumbai.

WILD WEST: The ambience was rugged.

Thus the evening -- read Wild Wild West theme for the westward ho Chaser.

A detailed screening of the Hollywood cowboy flicks popularised by Clint Eastwood -- gun strutting cowboys riding the speed horses in rocky arid terrains was echoed in the ambience with the bartenders dressed in cowboy check and rugged jeans attire and a hat to complete the looks.

The dress code for the evening was spurs, ten-gallons and holsters. And every large drink came with a chaser -- a shooter, to chase the drink down.

The DJ on the house arranged a stack to go with the mood— Islands in the stream, How deep is your love, Suzanna, Achy breaky heart and OSTs from A few dollars more and The good, bad and the ugly, and more of the golden oldies that struck the right chords with the gathering.

CHANGING GUARD: Chaser and Kamal `SIN' Kishore.

"It's a great honour to have a party arranged for my farewell. It is an emotional moment for me," says Chaser.

Trained under the renowned bartender from New Delhi, Sandy, Chaser, an IHM, Hyderabad belonging to the class of 2000, has been popular for his bar tricks, juggling, fire eating, singing (he is an excellent rapper) and the bar tending works. "He has been a bar personality, be it managing the bar, interacting with guests or coming up with bar tricks for entertainment," says Avijit Chaturvedi, F&B Manager, Taj Banjara. "Today an interactive service is what a customer is looking at, at the end of a hard day, maybe seeking from the bartender solutions for a problem. Bartending has gained recognition as an important job. The boys who put so much of hard work and take risks such as fire throwing definitely need recognition," says Chaser.

As a parting shot Chaser presented a glimpse of his tricks that made him popular with the guests and colleagues at the Underdeck. The highlight of the show was a small resurrection theme, the Chasers' kidnapping and coming back, this time with a song and a jig apart from making some parting cocktails with his team. "We have been closely attached with the bar— be it while bottling, numbering the tables or planning theme parties such as the Men in black, Elvis and Rock `n' roll nights giving the twin cities a taste of theme parties. I thank the hotel for giving us the opportunity and freedom to do so," says a touched Chaser who was greeted by the regulars who wished him luck. Taking over from him, SIN (See you in the night) Kamal Kishore Naidu says, "we would be organising theme parties. We would definitely want the golden days to be back."
