Gangotri... M.M. Keeravani... Supreme... Rs.38
WITH THE kind of interest the film has already generated, the music will now only add to its strength. What with veteran director K. Raghavendra Rao directing his100th film, "Mega-star's Menalludu" (Allu Aravind's son) making his debut, the film is assured of the best treatment in all departments. When it comes to music, none other than Keeravani is in charge and he just excels. Each number stands apart and impresses with its pure melody and newness. No gimmicks for Keeravani and no fusions either...thank god!
The tape opens with Nuvvu Nenu Kalisunte sung by S.P.Balasubrahmanyam and Malavika - a soothing number, but it is Balu's son Charan who outscores all the other singers in the album with his youthful voice and mature rendition. His duet with Malavika Oka Thotalo... brings out the essence of the film -- that of the purity of Ganga and young lovers.
Vallanki Pitta and Railu Bandi are the other two catchy numbers with mood and music varying interestingly.
The pick of the tape will be without doubt Jeevana Vahini sung by Keeravani with Kalpana and Srivardhini. A classical number, the songs enhance the entire track to a new level. Keeravani has simply done the best of the jobs by both setting tune and singing.
Mano and Smitha's Maavayyadi Mogalturu is for the front benchers and Ganga by Charan and Sunitha is the song that comes last and is one of the best. Music and a musician par excellence!

Khwahish... Milind Sagar... Crescendo... Rs. 55
IF YOU have had a glimpse of the promos of Khwahish you would have seen the `dare all, bare all' stance of the protagonists Himanshu Malik and Mallika Sherawat. One would assume the songs to be in accordance with the theme. The songs are not as sensuous as the promos seem to be. The highlight of the album is Asha Bhonsle, who has rendered all the numbers in the film. Even at this age her sensuous and intense voice just bowls you over. The songs are not great but Asha makes them sound good.Music by Milind Sagar is slightly different from the usual but not of hit quality. The classical number Rang raliyan (raag Malkauns) is the pick. Asha sounds great in this. In Jaaneman she teams up with KK and they do a good job. The other four numbers with Udit Narayan are just above average.
This is perhaps the first album where the songs are not repeated twice considering the trend these days. If you are in a mood of listening to something different and have the time then check it out only for the sake of Asha. Otherwise give it a miss.
INDI-POP
Gully... Euphoria... T-Series... Rs.50
IF YOU haven't picked up the Euphoria album Gully, lend an ear to the timeless music from Palash Sen and his boys. The album opens with a cheerful Aana meri gully, which in fact had a racy video to support. And what makes the album stand out is the melange of moods it presents. Raja rani has a folksy tune. Oo piyu is a western track altogether while Waise hi is a Qawali piece. For some fusion, What is the mantra of your life? is one to check out for, especially for the synthesis of strings and percussion. The songs are matched with stirring lyrics such as Kya yeh sach hai?Lori 1-Sone de maa, Praathnaa and Kuchh Nahin. An emotional Ab na jaa wraps up the musical journey, a number that reflects the listeners request for the Euphoria, asking for more of their mellow music.

Let Go... Avril Lavigne... Arista... Rs.150
SHE IS a hot teen sensation on the pop charts, anything but ordinary. Avril Lavigne, a true wild child has packed in a high-energy performance in her debut album Let Go. She is currently riding airwaves with her sing-along track Complicated. Starting from gospel singing to country music along her musical travail, she presents an album that reflects ample range. Her clear vocals come up strong in the opening track Losing Grip, My world, Tomorrow and Too much to ask. Sk8er Boi, Anything but ordinary and Mobile are the get-up-and-go tracks you may want to listen to. Check out the album to know why the artist is a hit machine.
This is me... Then... Jennifer Lopez... Sony Music... Rs.135.
A LITTLE bit of nostalgia, slow tempo and a big helping of the exclusive J Lo touch, This is me... Then is the new offering from the diva. The album kick starts with a melancholic Still followed by a slow Loving you. All I have is a hip-hop number featuring LL Cool J followed by the Jenny from the block that is currently doing rounds on the music channels. One number you should lend a ear is Again, a slow number as also The one (version 2). You belong to me and I've been thinkin' are on a bluesy note. The album wraps up with a hip-hop I'm gonna be alright-one for the Bronx influence. All along, This is me... Then has lyrics you can relate to.
The album is different from her debut album in that the tempo in the new album is essentially slow vis-à-vis the verve the former packed. Also the current album presents a very melancholic central theme. Hope her next offering is on a cheerful note.
