Awards for melody... old, new
REMEMBER THE legendary music composer Sardar Malik who gave us memorable songs like "Saranga Teri Yaad Mein" etc? Recognising his talent, Sangam Kala Group has recently honoured him with the Sangam Legendary Award. His son, Anu Malik too bagged the Best Music Director of the Year Award.
The group, which also organised Surtarang-2003 National Singing Talent Hunt at Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi this past week, had 18 contestants making it to the finals from the regional levels this year. Javed Khan from Delhi won the first prize in the sub-junior film singing category and Shilpa Paul from Kolkata got the same in senior category. Anu Malik judged the talents.
The group, established in 1974, provides opportunity to amateur teenager talents in the fields of dance, drama and music. It has 40 regional chapters and organises its talent hunt annually.
The group also presented Sangam National Award to others including Uma Sharma for contribution to art and culture, Shreya Ghoshal the Best Playback Singer, Jasvinder Singh Commendation Award for ghazal singing among many others.
