That's entertainment

"MY BIG Fat Greek Wedding" and "Catch Me If You Can" are absolute must-see for those who crave for good entertainers. Both these films, one produced by Tom Hanks and the other in which he stars along with Leonardo Di Caprio, are releasing this Friday in Chennai.

If you like Sooraj Barjatya or Karan Johar type typical Indian wedding comedies against the backdrop of a large joint family, you will love "My Big Fat Greek Wedding".

The plot set in Chicago is about a young Greek woman who falls in love with an American and struggles to get her family to accept him while she comes to terms with her heritage and cultural identity. Nia Vardalos who plays the Greek girl is excellent and the film is based on a play she wrote. She was noticed by Rita Tom Hanks, another Greek who persuaded her husband to produce the film on a shoestring budget of $5 million. The film was declared the mega blockbuster of last year as it grossed $250 million at the U.S. box-office! Six Indian versions of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" are getting ready, three in Hindi and one each in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada! "Catch Me If You Can" is the true story of a real fake.

A successful con artist (Leonardo Di Caprio), who managed to pass himself off as several identities, including a Pilot, has an FBI agent (Tom Hanks) on his trail. The film released in the U.S. a few weeks back is a big hit. Once again, the master filmmaker Steven Spielberg makes popular entertainment into a work of art.
