A cuppa coffee and more!
Just Like That, a coffee pub situated in a quiet lane near Gangotri, opposite Stella Maris College, is an ideal hang-out not only to meet interesting people but also to relax over a snack and a delicious cup of coffee.
IT LOOKS like a good place to hang out... a bylane, near Gangotri, opposite Stella Maris College. Quiet, pretty unassuming, but as you wind your way up the stairs, you find that you can possibly spend some good moments alone or otherwise there. You can gaze out of the bay window and watch the activities below, play a game of chess, scrabble, ludo, and snakes and ladders or just doodle on sheets of paper left around on the tables at random. And while you do that, you can have a frappe, a wonderful coffee based dessert.
It's Just Like That, a coffee place with a difference pardon the cliché. But it is! In the first place, other than the variety of coffees that are served by the friendly staff, you could also tuck into some delicious eats pizzas, sandwiches, paneer fingers, rolls and what have you. All these cooked up by a chef who likes to experiment. So you have baked beans sandwich and... macaroni sandwich. Macaroni? Well, yes, and it's pretty filling as well. This is apart from the regulars such as the grilled sandwiches and burgers, all reasonably priced.
Says Anand Krishnan, a retired Wing Commander, who wanted to do something creative after leaving the Air Force, "I wanted to do something that I could share with people. So I started this place for kids and others to sit for a while, have coffee, play some games basically enjoy themselves.''
There is more than just coffee, says Anand. "There are juices, depending on the weather condition, sometimes people want that as well. We have mocktails, and one of them is a coffee, cola and chocolate combination called Three Is Company. Of course, I can proudly say that the frappe is one of the best you can get. And the paneer fingers are very popular too."
What makes this place a little different is that on a regular basis, Anand plans to have popular personalities coming in and interacting with those who hang out. For instance, on December 25, at 5.30 pm, actors Suhasini, Madhavan, Vijay Adiraj and Uma Padmanabhan will join in the fun, games and coffee. "I've also thrown in some kili josiam and portrait drawing for those who would like to try them out,'' says Anand. "I would like to also have personalities from the field of sports and literature interact with the regulars."
Just Like That also organises birthday parties for kids. Open from 11a.m. to 11 p.m., try out Just Like That if not to meet interesting people, then at least for a cup of coffee!
