The Indian connection

QUIZ TIME: Tim Sebastian

THE INDIA specials of Hard Talk have caught Yashwant Sinha, Mehbooba Mufti, Brajesh Mishra and Umer Farooq, Kashmiri separatist leader in Tim Sebastian's net. But the quick fire BBC host has found it harder to pin down L.K.Advani and Narendra Modi.

"L. K. Advani won't come on the show. He says that he doesn't have the time -- he doesn't have time in London or Delhi. Narendra Modi won't come on the show either. I'd love to interview Bill Clinton and Tony Blair as well. But they've turned us down," said Sebastian recently.

Meanwhile, one encounter had Anil Ambani interviewing Tim Sebastian. "To do a show in an uncontrolled environment in front of a live audience of 200 plus was courageous of Anil. Anil followed Tim's style by not allowing him too much time to think.

It was refreshing to see that there were moments when both were honest and moments when both were admitting their shortcomings.

On the whole, it was a good show. In any case, it was not a battle between a champ who has done 1,500 shows and a rookie who has done none," said Tina Ambani about her husband's quizzing of Sebastian.

In fact, industrialist Ambani tried to out-Sebastian Sebastian with quick-fire questions, not waiting for the answers, cutting into replies, browbeating - in short, an attempted take on the BBC presenter and his show. Guess Sebastian had no idea he would be paid back in his own currency in India!
