Flowers forever

The Mozamjahi market offers a delightful spread of fresh fruits and flowers in the numerous wholesale outlets doing brisk business in the area, for the past five decades.

COLOURFUL ARRAY: A sight for sore eyes.

A THING of beauty is a joy forever. John Keats was, perhaps, referring to nature's resplendence manifested through flowers. The smell or the sight of fresh flowers is, by itself, such a divine experience that many a poet has penned lines about their beauty. Contemplating to brighten up your home with a touch of nature? Head to Mozamjahi Market on the Jambagh Road. The flowers on display are a more than just a feast for the eye. Evident in the entire range of flowers available at the place, the riot of colours and the array of different varieties will unfailingly make one admire their beauty, in their very natural state.

The Mozamjahi market stocks flowers brought from nearby fields and a few other varieties from the districts surrounding the city. Says Salim of `Navrang Gul Mahal', "We are in this business for more than 50 years now. Every month, we add some seasonal flowers, too. We have around ten to 12 varieties available. Apart from loose flowers, we also sell bouquets, garlands, bridal plaits, et al."

All the shops in the market store roses — ordinary as well as the hybrid ones, lilies — tiger as well as the ordinary, gladioli and chrysanthemums — in different colours, sizes and varieties. Lotuses, carnations, dahlias, marigolds, jasmines and gerberas are also available off the shelves. Bouquets and garlands are made on order. And the prices, quite reasonable though, do vary according to the variety. Ravi of `Fancy Flowers' says, "The price depends on the type of the flower. The whole bunch of 50 cut roses is available for anything in between Rs. 80 and Rs. 100." Incredible, isn't it? "Our prices are very less compared to the market price. We make huge garlands for about Rs. 300. The bouquets, of course, are all differently priced.

Most of the retailers buy from us, as ours is a wholesale market, and sell these in their shops for a higher price," explains Ahmed of `Ashok Gul Mahal'.

These shops also specialise in stage decorations. They take party orders for a nominal amount and arrange everything, according to the occasion or the taste and choice of the customers.

Not only flowers, the road also has a line of wholesale suppliers of fruits. Among the various kinds of fruits stocked are oranges, sweet lime, apples, custard apples, grapes, pomegranates, pears, cherries, peaches, bananas, jack fruits, papaya, mangoes, guavas, sapota, water melons, pine apples, dates, seasonal fruits, et al. These neatly packed fruits come here from all other States, apart from the local produce that is stocked in abundance.

So, if you are interested to buy fresh quality flowers and fruits at a very reasonable price, you have to visit this place, which is just en route Nampally from Koti.

Enjoy a delightful and delicious time!
