RAMA RAVEE TITTI, after a seven-year-stint in Delhi where she choreographed several group dances, is now settled in Chennai. While she had been toying with the idea of associating herself with art and culture in Chennai, she was also surprised that there wasn't a single place around Virugambakkam, where all the activities pertaining to Art and Culture could be brought under one roof with professional guidance. She approached Music Academy, Chess Academy and the Arts Academy and came up with the idea of forming a club wherein she could offer a host of fun-to-learn-activities to people.
Formed on July 3, this year, with just 5 students and 3 activities, now The Shiksha Garden Club has expanded to 19 activities and 37 students. The idea is to bring all the young talents under `one roof.' The club is mainly targeted towards children between 5 and 15 years but there are special classes for adults also. The club has picked up tutors from the best-authorised academies and institutions and hence gives quality coaching to children.
Activities
Regular classes are held for key board, violin, veena, guitar, mridangam, flute, drawing, art and craft, yoga, chess, aerobics, western dance, Bharathanatyam, vocal carnatic music, spoken English personality development, slokas, bhajans, Bhagwad Gita. The club also organises regular short camps, inter-school competitions in painting and dance, and kids carnival. in various activities during the year. During the Christmas Time, the club organises inter school competition in painting and dance and conducts kids carnival. Students are also given homework and projects which make them become more creative.
Future plans
The club wants to form into a Gurukul where interested children get an in-depth study of the above activities along with food and stay facilities. The club is making a research on a combination of Yoga with Stress Management along with remedies from herbal, ayurveda and siddha.
With a view to get more support from people, the club proposes to be formed into a trust soon.
