For a cuppa in style
EVERY EVENING, the swanky Cupps and Muggs on Infantry Road (above Tycoons), gets converted into a hip and groovy pub, complete with music, lights, and a happening crowd. Run by Copper Arch Hotels, it is the sister concern of Tycoons.
Plush and chic interiors give this new hang out a stylish look. But this posh place was once used as a humble party hall. Then, to accommodate the pub-hopping crowd, the place was converted to a pub called Club Velvet. But as restrictions such as closing on time and so on were imposed on pubs, the proprietors were forced to think again.
Around the same time, another fad - coffee drinking - invaded the City. Realising that coffee sipping hours don't extend into the night, the proprietors gave the place its new avatar - Cupps and Muggs.
This retreat is exclusive, in that, it has a limited seating capacity of 70, and it is usually the upmarket or the corporate crowd that flocks this place. Perfect for a quick cup of coffee, a relaxed drink, or an unstrained conversation, Cupps and Muggs with its trendy but comfortable style makes you feel right at home.
The menu lists nothing exotic but offers the standard frappes and espressos assisted by the universal pizzas and burgers. All items are priced between Rs. 25 and Rs. 40. One can also order a pre-plated lunch from the Tycoons menu. A few baked treats have also sneaked their way into the menu, but no one is complaining.
Designed by Mathew George, the furniture is light, and is made from steel, acrylic, and glass, which give the place a subtle and yet a distinct look.
The beige and blue blend well and the furniture, designed like a jigsaw, and it can be rearranged whenever extra space is required. The lighting too is arranged in such a way that it is easy on the eye.
The frosted glass bar counter, the UV lights, and the DJ console assist the unique conversion.
The night has the crowd unwinding to the groovy retro beats of DJ Jasmeet.
Having tied up with an event managing company, Cupps and Muggs will soon host theme nights. To accommodate fitness freaks, the proprietors plan to start a "health conscious" salad bar.
With a youthful mood, music aplenty, pleasant staff, and excellent service, Cupps and Muggs seems to be a perfect get away.
The place is also open for parties and informal get-togethers.
