Going to cinema hall is still great fun

A decade-and-a-half back we used to yearn for the weekend to come. After five days of routine chores of study and homework, we used to long to be associated with our family members. So was the same with our parents and other elder members of our family.

Especially for the younger members of the family, Saturday used to be the most coveted day, because that day was reserved for a movie. Somehow the young uncles used to manage to get the tickets for the best movie in town, be it an English, Hindi or a regional film.

Going to a film was not just to see our favourite stars in action, but it used to be a get-together with the family. All the members young or old used to pile up in the family car and drive down to the movie hall dressed in their best.

All the fun used to start the moment, we entered the hall. The appetizers were the popcorn packets followed by hot samosas and creamy softy ice creams in the interval. And not to forget all the friends we used to meet for a brief review during the break.

Even the movies used to be great, the scenes, the songs and the dialogues used to go home with us.

But off late this seems to be fading a bit, with the advent of satellite channels and other electronic gadgets like VCRs and CD players. Off course the work load for every body has also increased and it virtually leaves them panting for breath by the weekend. This forces us to confine ourselves to our living rooms, watching the movies in the small screen.

But even now a movie with the entire family is still fun and can be refreshing.

S.B.
