Special olympics for the physically challenged
The Vizag Junior Chamber, an affiliate of Junior Chamber International, will organize Special Olympics (special sports meet for the physically and mentally challenged children) at the Police Barracks ground on August 15.
VJC has initiated the project in 2000 to encourage the less privileged children to participate in games and sports.
Over 20 organisations from all over the city have sent in their entries. About 250 students will compete in about 20 sports events which include running race for boys and girls separately for the blind and the physically challenged, relay races, match box for the blind and `Jilebi bites'.
VJC, which was started in 1990, has organised a number of community service projects like conducting polio surgical camps at Rani Chandramani Devi (RCD) Hospital, providing educational scholarships to students and conducting individual development workshops.
They have also conducted workshops on various topics like public speaking, communication skills, time management and interview techniques.
