BANDHINI... THE word throws up images of brilliant combinations... fiery red with black, shocking pink with green, brilliant blue with white and bright yellow with earthy brown. The appeal of the ethnic motifs on earthy hues, from the desert sands of Kutch in Gujarat is everlasting.
The kutchi bandhini is said to be of superior quality as it is washed in the region's salty waters, before the dyeing process begins. Now, there's an exclusive bandhini outlet in the city.
Called simply The Bandhini Shop, the range comprises dupattas, salwar suits and dress materials in traditional colour combinations and also some unusual ones like green with gray and beige with blue. The range is available in cotton and silk. What's more, the range includes discharge printing... the tied bandhini dots are in colour unlike the usual white.
Some salwar sets are embellished with mirrors too. As for the prices, they are reasonable.
The outlet, in Fountain Plaza, Egmore, is all set to add an exclusive range of saris to its collection.
