For children of a greater god
INTERIOR DECORATION of homes today, does not stop with classy living rooms, bedrooms, or drawing rooms. For the affordable families the childrens' room is as important with specialised furniture, decorative pieces, and storage spaces.
And if that is what you're looking for, then it is time to take a walk through The Enchanted Woods.
Started by Aruna Nori and Shashi Vijayshankar in 2001, The Enchanted Woods specialises in furniture for kids' rooms. They make innovative, creative styled furniture.
You can have them painted in themes that your child loves. Could be Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh... a whole lot of them. Aruna Nori designs the units and Shashi Vijayshankar, a Chitrakala Parishath graduate, gives them thematic touches.
What makes products at The Enchanted Woods stand out? Every product is unique and has a utility value. For instance, they make dressing tables shaped like sunflowers, with the mirror placed at the centre of the flower. The petals become tack boards and the planter at the bottom is a chest of drawers. Unique styling indeed! At Enchanted Woods, one can find hang up pegs with Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh... priced at Rs. 60. Also one can find photo frames, CD boxes (Rs. 225 upwards), toy storage boxes (Rs. 2,250 upwards) shaped like an engine etc. File boxes, lap-pads, toy stands (Rs. 2,500 upwards), tables, chairs, and soft boards (Rs. 500) are also available. The beauty of the products is that while all of them occupy less space in the room, they have plenty of storage capacity. The toy stands shaped like a Kangaroo or a flora/ Nataraj pencil are standing proofs of that, and they are the fastest moving items at The Enchanted Woods.
Another fast mover is the lap-pad, at Rs.540, which children can carry around, put on their lap and use for writing, painting etc. Aruna Nori, the brain behind the designs at The Enchanted Woods, ensures that she comes up with fresh designs every now and then, especially for the exhibitions she holds twice a year. While most products can be bought of the shelf, they also take orders to suit the customer's requirements.
Says Ms. Nori: "Parents splurge on childrens' rooms. They see designs in brochures and homes overseas and wish to have the same for their child. However, the products and themes available in the stores here are limited and become common."
While the items from The Enchanted Woods may seem steeply priced, ample care is taken to ensure that they are safe for children. The material used in most products is either sal wood, rubber wood or "second quality teak". They are more than willing to give shape to any ideas that parents in Bangalore have for their children. The Enchanted Woods can be contacted on 5283539 or 8511355.
