An honour at last
FINALLY his country has bestowed an honour upon him. Though for U.K.-based sculptor, ANISH KAPOOR the question of being quintessentially British or Indian is no longer in the scheme of things. Initially it "was painful. Realisation dawned on me. Now it is like liberation, I am free," said Kapoor. And it is this same spirit of freedom and eternal quest that leads him to create his works. Kapoor is clear that his art is not about sending messages but is "just an expression of my creativity". He said that he was constantly innovating and experimenting to use new media. So you may have a massive installation in fibreglass, aluminium or even stainless steel.
This could be offset with sindoor, chalk and wood. For Kapoor there is no form that he has shied away from. "My work is all about understanding space," said he. Of the Dayawati Modi Award for Art, Culture and Education, Kapoor beamed, he was "happy to receive it".
