WITH the monsoon in full flow, it is appropriate that the Indian Council for Cultural Relations' four-day Malhar Festival begins on August 4. Madhup Mudgal and Shanno Khurana perform on the opening day, while August 5 features Shruti Sadolikar and Atul Desai. On August 6 the performers include Ashwini Bhide and Ghulam Mustafa Khan, while August 7 is reserved for the Gundecha brothers Umakant and Ramakant, followed by L.K. Pandit. The performances take place at Kamani auditorium 6-30 p.m.

THERE are exhibitions aplenty this week. Among them is "Art Walk", an event including some of the best-known names in the Indian art scene, like M.F. Husain, Jatin Das, Shahabuddin, Thomas Easely, Bulbul Sharma and others. The exhibition at Habiart Gallery in the India Habitat Centre, Lodi Estate is on till August 14, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Paintings in steel by Susmita Banerjee go on display from August 6-12 at the Art Gallery, India International Centre Annexe, Lodi Estate, daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Meenu Srivastava's recent drawings can be seen at Shridharani Gallery in Triveni Kala Sangam on Tansen Marg. The History of Indian Cinema is the theme of an exhibition of posters and stills from films, now on display at Vision, The Centre Of Art at M-23, Greater Kailash II, till August 13, daily between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

ASAVARI, the dance institute founded by Shovana Narayan presents a two-day festival, "Arpan" at the India Habitat Centre from 7 p.m. on August 4 and 5. The first evening features a Kathak recital by Madhura Pathak accompanied by Akbar Lateef on the tabla, Sanchari Bakshi on the sitar. The second begins with a vocal recital by Anees Khan, followed by Daneesh Aslam Khan on the sarod and a Mohiniattam performance by Vijayalakshmi.

DASHKATHIA, a centuries-old folk theatre form of Orissa, is performed by a group from the Ganjam district. This programme is brought to us by Impresario India at the India Habitat Centre on August 6 at 7 p.m.
