UNDER Masquerade's M4Children project, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan's Theatre Ensemble present two plays over this coming weekend. Janosch's "The Trip to Panama is the first to be held on April 15 at PSBB, T.P. Road at 11 a.m. Otfried Preussler's The Little Witch will be staged at PSBB K.K. Nagar at 12 noon on April 16. Directed by S. Krishna Kumar, the event is supported by Max Mueller Bhavan.

GOD'S Own Country is blessed not with just natural beauty but also with exquisite art forms. Kerala's mural painting tradition is one such. This rich art form has faded from the limelight and a fire that destroyed some of the murals in the Guruvayoor temple revived interest in it. Now, the city sees an exhibition of an exclusive range of murals presented by Stupa Murals, a Kerala-based organisation dedicated to preserving and promoting this form. HOW do we tell children about all the ugly things that go with war and the difficult and often controversial subjects of violence, injustice and an unequal world? Well-known writer Githa Hariharan will talk about these and related issues at Goodbooks Bookstore, 39 Fourth Street, Abhiramapuram, on April 18, at 5.30 pm in Meet the Author. Githa has consistently spoken against divisive forces and injustice and was instrumental in putting together a workshop on exploring creative ways to communicate ideas and issues to children. She is also, along with Shama Futehally, editor of Sorry, Best Friend! (a collection of stories on communal harmony, published by Tulika). She will read from the book. CAPTURING the colours of India through landscapes and portraits of women, Panchali Duarah's paintings are like kaleidoscopes. An exhibition of her work is on from April 11-20 at Vinyasa Art Gallery in the Music Academy premises, TTK Road between 11 a.m and 7 p.m. daily.

DOMESTIC violence is an issue that is only just coming out from behind closed doors. A film on this topical subject "Voices Heard, Sisters Unseen", written and produced by Grace Poole, will be screened on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Consulate Auditorium. This show is part of "Insights" the Prevention of Crime and Victim Care's (PCVC) end abuse campaign.

GET set for some soul-stirring music this Saturday. The Madras Musical Association Choir sings at St. Andrew's Kirk, Egmore, on April 19 at 6:30 p.m. The choir will render excerpts from Handel's "Messiah" and an Easter Choral celebration "Crown Him King" created by David Guthrie. Dr. S. Grubb will conduct the 50-member choir.
