R.K.Laxman finds present-day politicians insipid.
HIS is the little corner on the front page that has you in splits, but also leave you wondering at the idiosyncrasies of our politicians. To most he is an institution, a legend in his life. But sadly today, R. K. Laxman, cartoonist, said that he found the present crop of politicians insipid. "They no longer wear Gandhi caps. They no longer grow moustaches. I have lost fun in caricaturing," he said. Speaking at a function at the Indian Institute of Cartoonists where he received a lifetime achievement award, Laxman said that "Nehru, Gandhi, Kripalani and Gobind Ballabh Pant were real characters." He felt that people like Laloo Prasad, Vajpayee and Narasimha Rao were not bad though the rest did not fit the bill.
