Show with a difference
IT WAS Sunday. The roads were thankfully bereft of traffic. There was a slight breeze in the air after an abnormal hot day. Those present were glad to have taken off from the city into the relative coolness of the hills. There was good music piped out of the speakers.
The occasion was the audio launch of `Gemeni' (spelled `Gemeni' unlike its Tamil original `Gemini') and the venue was Rama Naidu Studios in Jubilee Hills. And then a hush descended as
Venkatesh and newface Bhairavi, happening music director, R.P. Patnaik, singer Usha and producer D. Suresh appeared. They were joined a while later by comedian Brahmanandam. The evening looked set and the audience looked forward to the event.
The audio was different from the usual. A day before, Patnaik and Usha appeared on `Aata Kaavala Paata Kaavala' programme on Gemini TV. A web designer from Begumpet, Suresh, won the draw of lots and was asked to officially release the cassette. Magician C.V. Ramana, who kept the audience engaged with his performance, came up with a trick for the cassette's release.
As Suresh opened the ribbon and put his hand inside the box, he found that there was no cassette. Ramana said he would use his magic to trace the cassette which he said was with someone in the audience. And it was film journalist and producer, B.V. Raju, with whom the cassette was.
Suresh Productions is known in the industry for tying up with companies and having contests. Earlier, it tied up with Coke for `Jayam Manadera.' For `Prematha Raa,' it had a Brooke Bond 3 roses Lucky Couple Contest in which the winners will get a chance to act. Now winners will get the chance to sing for Patnaik in his forthcoming ventures. Quite imaginative!
It was an interesting evening for privileged invitees. The function, the speeches of the celebrities and humour with Brahmanandam and the magician and the dinner. Venkatesh described the film as a `mass entertainer', one to be watched with the entire family.
Isn't that what every producer says these days?
