(Questions answered on career concerns)

I am 36-year-old self-employed agri-consultant for 10 years. I am a postgraduate in agricultural microbiology. I would like to know if doing an MBA would fetch me a good job. As I am not eligible for CAT because of my age, please suggest a B-School in Chennai. Also, advise me on the area of specialisation. Should I shift my career to ITES field?

Abdul Wajeed Chinnavellai. K Considering your academic qualification, experience and inclination to do MBA, it is better to opt for MBA agribusiness. As you must have noticed in your 10 years of experience, the scenario of agriculture industry in India is undergoing a massive transition towards contemporary production procedures and business structures. This ongoing evolution has given way for a number of opportunities throughout the sector. Focusing on these emerging requirements and the need of skilled managers to handle this sector at various levels, many institutes in India have introduced curriculum in agribusiness management. Some of the courses and institutes:

• National Institute of Agricultural Marketing offers two-year postgraduate programme in agribusiness management. The admission is through entrance test. For further details, visit www.niam.gov.in

• IIM Ahmadabad and IIM Lucknow offer two-year postgraduate diploma in agribusiness management. The intake is through CAT. For further details, visit www.iimahd.ernet.in and www.iiml.ac.in. CAT has no age limit.
