I am a retired government official. I would like to pursue a
career in medical transcription. Please tell me how I can go
about it.

Any graduate with excellent command over English and one who is
comfortable with the American accent can go in for medical
transcription. The work involves meticulously transcribing
digitised audio data dictated by the doctor into formatted
computerised text. Medical transcription requires the person to
have excellent listening skills, familiarity with medical
terminology, high degree of concentration and accuracy. Check for
the credibility of the institute and its faculty before you sign
up for any course.
I am a trained electrician from ITI. I would like to pursue a
diploma in electrical engineering from a recognised institute or
university. Kindly list the names of universities that offer the
course.

There are many universities that offer a diploma in electrical
engineering. Some of the universities that offer the course are:
Utkal University, Bhubaneshwar, Orissa; Jamia Millia Islamia,
Jamia Nagar, New Delhi; Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological
University, Maharashtra; Aligarh Muslim University, Uttar
Pradesh; Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, Rajasthan;
Punjab University, Chandigarh; and University of Baroda, Gujarat;
and the Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Uttar Pradesh. For more

My son is keenly interested in drawing cartoons and would like to
pursue it as a career. Can you please provide me with the names
and addresses of institutions that offer courses in this field?

If your son has an inborn talent and skill for caricaturing, he
can opt for various diploma and graduate courses that provide
training in the art. Visva-Bharati at Shantiniketan offers a
graduate course in Bachelor of Fine Arts. Cartooning is usually a
part of the BFA curriculum. The duration of the course is for a
period of five- years and those who have completed their higher
secondary (intermediate or plus two) can apply for the study
programme. Other courses offered by the institute are graphic
arts, fine arts and crafts design, and drawing and painting, the
duration of which is also for five-years. The eligibility
criterion is similar to that of the graduate course. Institutes
such as ZICA at Mumbai and the Heart Animation Academy in
Hyderabad also provide training in computer animation and
graphics.
I am a final year BA student (Economics) and I want to pursue my
higher studies in MA (Economics). Please give me the details of
the examination conducted by JNU and the Delhi University for the
same.

Both, Delhi University and the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU
offers world economy) offer an MA in economics. You need to be a
graduate in economics, statistics or mathematics to apply for the
course. Admission into the universities is regulated through an
All India Entrance Examination held at forty centres spread over
the country. Advertisements with regard to admissions are carried
out in leading publications in February and March. For further
details you can correspond directly with the university and apply
for the prospectus.
I would like to make my career in the IT industry as a
programmer. I am a diploma holder in mechanical engineering.

courses in advanced software technology. You will have to achieve
perfection in the essential programming languages and courses
like C, C++, Java and other related skill sets. Having

Microsoft Certified Software Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified
Network Engineer (MCNE), Microsoft Certified Software Developer
(MCSD), Java Certified Professional (JCP) are some of the

I am doing my intermediate with biological sciences and wish to
pursue a graduate course in bio-medical engineering. Please let

There is a growing need for engineers trained in the biomedical
sciences. Biomedical engineers are employed in industry, in
hospitals, in research facilities of educational and medical
institutions, in teaching, and in government regulatory agencies.
They often serve a coordinating or interfacing function, using
their background in both the engineering and medical fields. In
industry, they may create designs where an in-depth understanding
of living systems and of technology is essential. They may be
involved in performance testing of new or proposed products.

With PCMB (physics, chemistry, maths, biology ) or BPC (biology,
physics, chemistry) at the intermediate level, you are eligible
to apply for the course. However, you will have to qualify
through an entrance exam that will be conducted by the respective
state to which the institute belongs.
