TNAU geared up to meet global, national challenges

Coimbatore (PTI): The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) is systematically redesigning its educational system to suit global and national requirements in view of the rapid changes in the agricultural sector due to technlogical progress and economic forces.

The aim was to produce globally competitive agricultural graduates and transform TNAU into dynamic promoters of change, market-led, technology-led and consumer-driven agriculture, trade liberalisation and futures marketing, TNAU Vice-Chancellor Dr C Ramasamy told reporters here on Saturday.

Besides new courses, new syllabi and curriculum and new modes of teaching and learning introduced for the last two years, TNAU is also introducing E-learning in the form of video streaming, he said.

All lecture presentations of undergraduate degree courses were videocaptured regularly and systematically in classrooms, which are then converted into digital form after synchronizing with power point presentations. The resultant media file was then hoisted in the TNAU website for the benefit of students for a better understanding of the subject, Ramasamy said.

In continuation with dual degree programme introduced in partnership with Cornhill University, USA, TNAU is starting another UG programme with Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC), Canada, that integrates NSAC's B.Tech (Enviromental Horticulture) and TNAU's BSc (Agriculture and Horticulture and B Tech (horticulture), he said.
