    Benegal, Mumtaz and Rahman to be honoured by IIFA

    Mumbai (PTI): Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal, actress Mumtaz and music maestro A R Rahman will be honoured by the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) for their contribution to cinema during the IIFA weekend in Bangkok. The IIFA weekend will be held in the Thai capital from June 6-8.

    Benegal will receive the special Idea IIFA Award for his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema. Mumtaz, who rose from a humble beginning as a junior artiste to become Bollywood's reigning queen in the 1970s, will be also honoured for her achievements.

    Music director Rahman has been chosen for his contribution to both Indian and international cinema".

    "It is an honour for us at IIFA to present the special category awards to these stalwarts who contributed immensely towards the growth and progress of Indian cinema," an IIFA release said here on Saturday.
