GoM constituted to study drought situation in AP
Hyderabad (PTI): The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday constituted a Group of Ministers to study the drought situation in the state.
Finance minister K Rosaiah will head the seven-member group that includes ministers Dharmana Prasada Rao (Revenue), P Sabita Indra Reddy (Home), N Raghuveera Reddy (Agriculture), Vatti Vasantha Kumar (Rural Development), P Viswaroop (Rural Water Supply) and J Krishna Rao (Civil Supplies).
The GoM will review the drought situation on a weekly basis and take appropriate remedial measures, government sources said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has directed district Collectors to immediately submit a report on suicides by farmers because of the adverse seasonal conditions.
The Collectors were asked to pay a compensation package of Rs 1.5 lakh to the families of farmers who committed suicide, the sources added.
