BJP describes Congress resignations as "drama"

Chandigarh (PTI): The Punjab BJP, an alliance partner of the SAD in the Parkash Singh Badal led government in the state, on Saturday described as "mere drama" the resignations submitted by 41 of the 44 Congress MLAs to their state unit President Rajinder Kaur Bhattal.

Local Bodies Minister and senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia said that the Congress action was nothing but shedding crocodile tears now after the saffron party protested against the violence forcing the Chief Minister to act in the matter, including suspending two senior police officers of Tarn Taran.

Forty-one of the Congress legislators have submitted their resignations to Bhattal for onward dispatch to Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi in protest against what the party described as the large scale violence during the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in the state on Mseat next week.

The action of the Congress in protesting before the President and enacting the resignation drama showed their frustration, Kalia, who is also the leader of BJP legislature party said.
