EU objections on India's loan waiver come a cropper

New Delhi (PTI): India has nipped in the bud the objections raised by the European Union in WTO over the Rs 60,000-crore farm loan waiver, stating the measure announced in the budget was meant to give relief to marginal farmers.

"They (EU) tried to raise the issue in WTO. But it was more of a hot balloon which we shot down," a senior Commerce Ministry official said on his return from Geneva where he had gone for trade talks under the Doha Round of World Trade Organisation.
