Nagaswaram-Thavil fest
Brahma Gana Sabha has organised Nalli’s Nagaswara Thavilisai Thiruvizha 2008, which will open on January 18 and go on till January 25, at Sivagami Pethachi Auditorium, 178, Luz Church Road, Mylapore.
Presided over by Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti, the event will have Cleveland Sundaram and A. Natarajan, former director, Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai, offering felicitations. Thiruvallaputhur T. A. Kaliyamurthy will emcee the proceedings.
The inauguration tomorrow, 5.30 p.m., will be followed by the nagswaram-thavil concert of Thiruppambaram Brothers, T.K.S. Swaminathan & T.K.S. Meenakshi Sundaram.
On Jan 19, it will be Punnima Brothers K.M. Dakshinamurthy & K.M. Uthirapathi; Jan.20: Injikkudi E.M. Subramaniam; Jan. 21: Srirangam S. Kasim, S. Babu; Jan. 22: Tiruchi A.K.C. Natarjan (clarionet); Jan.23: Mambalam M.K.S. Siva & Durgaprasad (nagaswaram); Jan.25: Seshampatti Sivalingam (nagaswaram). The concerts are from 6.15-8 p.m. on all days.
Laksharchanai
Sri Balavinayagar Seva Trust is conducting its annual Laksharchanai Mahotsavam this year at Sri Balavinayagar temple in Saligramam by organising a series of cultural functions and rituals beginning January 18. Laksharchanai will be performed on January 26, followed by anna dhanam and ratha utsavam. The week-long activities also mark the culmination of its silver jubilee year and include homams, harikatha, dance, drama, bhajans and devotional music. For details, contact: 044-2365 2017.
Sampradaya bhajans
Shanmukhapriya has organised Sampradaya bhajans to be rendered by Udayalur Kalyanarama Bhagavathar, on January 20. The evening programme at 4.25 p.m. will be held at Swamy’s Hall, near Rani Meyammai School, R.K.Mutt Road, Mylapore.
Consecration
The kumbabhishekam of Valampuri Selva Vinayakar Temple, Rajaji St., Saidapet (near Aranganathar subway), will be held on January 20, between 8.30 and 10 a.m. The rituals for the consecration begin on Jan.18, 5 a.m. with Maha Ganapathi Homam. The various pujas begin at 8.45 a.m. on Jan. 19. On Jan.20, the fourth kalayaaga puja and other significant events start at 6.30 a.m.
