Close on the heels of the ‘Sangita Kalanidhi’ conferred on him by The Music Academy on January 1, mridangam maestro Palghat Raghu, who turns 80 this month, will be honoured on January 5, 6 p.m.

Organised by a committee comprising his admirers, disciples, and musicians who have been associated with him over the decades, the function will take place at Sadguru Gnanananda Hall.

Prof. T.N. Krishnan is the president of the committee, with vidwans Lalgudi Jayaraman, M. Balamuralikrishna, N. Ramani, Kaaraikudi Mani, Tiruchi Sankaran, and N. Ram, Editor-in Chief, The Hindu, Nalli Kuppuswamy, and ‘Bharath’ Murali (Kerala State Sangeetha Nataka Academy), as vice-presidents.

Lalit Mansingh (former ambassador to the U.S., and former director general, Indian Council of Cultural Relations) will preside over the grand event. Pandit Ravishankar will be the chief guest.

R.K. Krishnakumar, director, Tata Sons, and T.J. S. George, columnist, will be the guests of honour. Screening of Latha Rajiv Menon’s 12-minute documentary on Palghat Raghu and the launch of the website palghatraghu.com are on the cards.
