Faithful versions

Bhushani Kalyanaraman

Choosing Karikalabamukham (Saveri) for starter, Bhushani Kalyanaraman’s made fine use of the swaras ‘Ga Ri’ to mesh with the pallavi. She made all attempts to render faithful versions but had to contend with the insuperable diffic ulty of voice-infidelity, especially towards the top shadjam and beyond.

She gave good renditions of ‘Sri Chakra Raja Nilaye’ (Sivasakthi) and ‘Nee Dhaya Radha’ (Vasantha Bhairavi) and a Ragam-Thanam-Pallavi in Lathangi.

The pallavi set to Kanda Thriputa thalam had ‘Kadhir Vadi Vela Unadhu Paadham Thunaye’ for its lyrics and included the ragas Bhoopalam, Sahana and Ranjani in the multi raga segement. Usha Rajagoplan on the violin accompanied in a tactful manner and A.S.Ranganathan on the mridangam and Adambakkam Shankar on the ghatam provided neat laya support.
