Honour for artists

Nataka Academy and Priya Vision will honour actor ‘Gemini’ Mahalingam with the title, ‘Nataka Ratna,’ on December 21, 6.45 p.m., at P.S. Dakshinamurthy Auditorium.

The event will be presided over by Cho. ‘Gemini’ Mahalingam was drawn to theatre when he was just 16, and went on to act in 2500 plays and more than 60 films, besides television serials.

A ‘Kalaimamani’ awardee, Mahalingam has acted on the stage in Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia. The event includes the presentation of ‘Kalaithoodhan Award’to London-based vocalist Sarojini Sundaresan.

Margazhi music fest

Sadguru Sath Sangam (Ph: 2617 4394; 94440 87361) will conduct Margazhi Isai Vizha from December 21 (today) - Dec.23, at Rajaji Nagar, Ganga St., (near Balaji Store), Villivakkam.

The programmes include the vocal concerts of R.Ganesh (Dec. 21, 7 p.m.), Ceylon Karunakaran (Dec.22, 7.30 p.m.) and Thirukkarugavur Srinivasa Raghavan (Dec.23, 7 p.m.)

DVD on Dikshitar

‘Dikshitar and Devi,’ a DVD by Rupa Gopal, will be released by V.V. Srivatsa, and the first copy will be received by N. Ramani, on December 22 (tomorrow), 11 a.m., at Nadigar Sangam, Habibullah Road, T.Nagar. This will be followed by the screening of it.

Concert

Geetha Rajasekar will perform for the Tambaram Music Club ( phone: 22392885/9841385288) on December 23 at 6.30 p.m. Her accompanists will be Venkatasubramanian, M.R. Srikrishnan and A. S. Krishna. The venue will be Sita Devi Garodia School.

Music festival

The 13th annual Valayapatti Kaashyap Naadhalaya Festival will be celebrated from December21-29, at New Woodlands Hotel, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore. The fest opens with the nagaswaram recital of Thesur Selvarathinam at 4 p.m. The inauguration will be followed by O.S. Thiagarajan’s vocal recital at 7 p.m.
