Tamizh Isai 65
The 65th annual festival of Tamizh Isai Sangam will be inaugurated on December 21 (today), 6 p.m., at Raja Annamalai Mandram, Chennai. Santhalinga Ramasamy Adigalar will preside. The title of ‘Isai Paerarignar’ will be conferred on ‘Thevaram’ D. Natarajan and a purse for Rs.10,000 will be presented to him. Raja Sir. Annamalai Chettiar’s daughter, Lakshmi Aachi, will do the honours. Devaki Muthiah lights the kuthuvilakku (6 p.m.), Hon. Justice P.R. Gokulakrishnan, president, Tamizh Isai Sangam, delivers the welcome address and Hon. Justice A.R. Lakshmanan, chairman, Law Commission of India, New Delhi & vice-president of the Sangam, felicitates.
The programme will be preceded by a nagaswaram recital by Thiruvidaimarudur P.S.V.Raja, at 4 p.m. Sirkazhi Dr. G. Sivachidambaram’s music concert is scheduled to take place at 7.15p.m.
The highlight on Dec.22, will be M.S. Viswananthan’s music show from 6.15 p.m.-9.15 p.m.).
Dec.23: Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan (violin) (7.15 p.m.) Dec.24: Padma Subramaniam (7.15 p.m.); Dec.25: Maharajapuram Ramachandran (vocal) (7.15 p.m.). Dec.26: ‘Parangusa Nayaki’ (dance) (7.15p.m.)Krishnakumari Narendran’s troupe. Dec27: Sudha Raghunathan (7.15 p.m.); Dec.28: Srekala Bharat’s ‘Arupadai Veedu’ (dance drama) (5.15 p.m.) & K. J. Yesudas (vocal) (7.15 p.m.); Dec.29: Sanjay Subramaniam (7.15 p.m.): Dec.30: N. Ramani (flute recital) (7.15 p.m.); Dec31: Aruna Sairam (7.15 p.m.)
The festival concludes on January 1, 2008, with the nagaswaram concert of Tirukovilur D.S.E. Babu & Kumar. (7.15 p.m.)
