Devdas’ hangover?

Can Rani Mukherji and Konkana Sen Sharma measure up to Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit in terms of dancing skills? We aren’t starting a debate here. But Yash Raj Films would like to believe that Rani and Konkana can recreate the Madhuri-Ash magic of the Dole Re number from Devdas. Yash Raj’s next release, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, features the two in a foot-tapping number. The film stars Kunal Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan as well and is directed by Pradeep Sarkar. The story revolves around Rani and Konkana, sisters brought up in Benaras, moving to Mumbai and coping with the big bad world in the metro.

Nikita Anand arrives

Winning a beauty pageant is a stepping stone to film. Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Celina Jaitley and Tanushree Dutta have walked the path and now, it’s Nikita Anand’s turn. The 2003 Miss India winner will be seen in the Prakash Jha production Dil Dosti Etc paired opposite the Shreyas Talpade and Naseeruddin Shah’s son Imaad. Now that’s called an offbeat debut.

Now, a movie on Shilpa

Shilpa Shetty’s Big Brother episode may not fade away from public memory soon. And cashing in on it will be actor Shammi Kapoor’s son, Aditya Raj Kapoor. According to reports he plans to direct a film inspired by Shilpa’s experience . The film is titled Baltidevi: Queen of Southhall, and is about the rags-to-riches journey of a poor girl in Southhall. And guess who’s gonna do Shilpa Shetty’s role? Rakhi Sawant. The director says this will be Rakhi’s first full-length ‘serious’ role.

Back to the swinging 70’s

Choreographer-director Farah Khan has a thing for the swinging 70s. She kept the spirit of the 70s alive in her film Main Hoon Na to an extent. In her next film, Om Shanti Om, she has gone all out to revisit the era of bell bottoms and printed shirts. Model Deepika Padukone enacts the part of an actress (Shanti) who belonged to the 1970s who falls in love with Shah Rukh or Om, a junior artiste in the film industry. Farah has roped in more than 30 actors for a song sequence! The feel-good entertainer will open on November 9 with 2000 prints across the globe.
