Absorbing tale of emotions -- Karupasamy Kuthagaithaarar

WELL-NARRATED: Karuppasamy Kuthagaithaarar

Genre: Family drama

Cast: Karan, Meenakshi, Sakthikumar, Vadivel and Venkatesh.

Director: Murthy

Storyline: Romance, but different.

Bottomline: Starts and ends with a bang.

This Friends Cinema production has all the ingredients to make it a box office hit. A love tale, it is bolstered by comedy and good music.

Rasathi is a first year medical college student. She meets Karupasamy (Karan), called affectionately by his friends as Xerox, and falls in love with him. She tells him that she would finish her course only if he agrees to become her life partner. He accepts her love but a hostile family finds a groom for her. Karupasamy confronts them.

Twists and turns

The first half of the film moves at a sedate pace with twists and turns coming in the second topped by a fitting climax. Karan as Xerox has given a well-honed performance. As the lease owner of a two-wheeler stand, he opens up only in the end and with good reason.

Meenakshi is promising and can be relied upon for family drama.

Sakthikumar essays the anti-hero role with competence. Vadivelu has a separate comedy track. The effect would have been better if he had teamed up with the hero. Shobana as Karuppasamy’s mother and Suresh as Rasathi’s father are the other promising new finds. The friends of the hero Venkatesh, Kalidas, Sasi and Kittu have also contributed to the film with their work.

Composer Dhina and lyricist Yugabharati have worked hard to make all the six songs hum-worthy. Vijaya Sagar has chipped in with a song too. ‘Kadhal Enbadhu,’ rendered by O.S.Arun, Harish Ragavendra, Malgudi Subha, Dhina and Dev Prakash is catchy.

‘Oorellam’ another melody sung by Hariharan with a rural flavour is one of the best. Another nice song is ‘Sangam Vaithu’ that has Karthik, Sangeetha and Dhina. The camera handled by J.Sridhar enhances the proceedings. S. Satish’s editing is crisp like that of the dialogue written by Murthy who also takes care of the story, screenplay and direction.

The film is co-produced by Dheeraj Kher and produced by Sethu, Vinith Gogiya and R.Balasubramaniyan.

S.R.ASHOK KUMAR
