Will `Veeran' help the hero? -- Madurai Veeran

LOVE RULES: Madurai Veeran.

Madurai Veeran
Genre: Romance
Director: R. K.Vincent Selva.
Cast: `Jiththan' Ramesh, Saloni, Avinash.
Storyline: In spite of hurdles the hero and heroine unite.
Bottomline: Nothing about the story!

`Jiththan' Ramesh has caught hold of a commercial story with some twist in the end to make it convincing for the audience. Director Vincent Selva who introduced Ramesh in his film has now tried to give him a boost with `Madurai Veeran.' But the director at times loses grip, particularly towards the end. It is a not a new storyline. The director has tried a new way of presentation, in which he has succeeded only half way.

Twists and turns

Ramesh is a multi millionaire's son who loves a milk supplier's daughter, Saloni. Ramesh's father Avinash and Saloni's father Mayaandi are dead against their love. How the lovers unite is told with twists and turns in the screenplay. Ramesh is shown as a he-man but becomes weak against the goondas. In the end he fights a man several times his weight and wins. Ramesh has improved a lot. Saloni is beautiful and also emotes convincingly. Lal's performance is comparatively good while Sakunthala's (as Andalu) shouts have become stale. Avinash is majestic as the millionare. V.M.C.Hanifa, V.A.Murthy, Gana.Ulaganathan and Ganja Karuppu have all done their roles to perfection.

Ashok Iyer's dialogue passes muster, while I. Andrew's camera work is up to the mark. Srikanth Deva's songs are above average but he has not worked on the background score. Editor Jaishankar should have chopped off at least the lagging portion in the second half , particularly the chase by the killer who is sent by Ramesh's father to kill Saloni. Vincent Selva has directed the film keeping in mind the ingredients needed to make it a box office success.
