Lasya Nrityalayam, dance school in Srirangam, organised a special feature `Nritya Mahotsavam' at Rasika Ranjana Sabha, Tiruchi, recently.

Thushara Srinivasan, founder-director of the school, presented a colourful performance with her students. A typical `Pushpanjali' in Gambeeranattai followed by Tyagaraja's "Jagadanandakaraka" were interesting. Lalgudi Jayaraman's Navaragamalika varnam was also well handled.

Audience moved

The tillana in Mohanakalyani, Purandaradasa's "Bahyadalakshmi baramma" in Madyamavathi, Gopalakrishna Bharathi's "Adum Chidambaramo" in Behag, Oothukkadu's "Adhinirupama" in Panthuvarali and Arunagirinathar's "Thirupugazh" in Nattakurinji moved the audience. Choreography by Thushara was noteworthy.

Thushara and her team of disciples — Priya, Amrutha Ranjani, Aisvaryaa, Harshavarthini, Raadhika and Sreshta — , earned the appreciation of the audience. Laya and bhava expressed by Thushara and the young wards were rich.

The orchestra with Kamalesh doing nattuvangam, Senthilkumar on the mridangam, Muthukumaran on the violin, Dakshinamurthy playing the flute and Hariharan's voice enhanced the show.

Dr. R. Kousalya, principal, Government Music College, Thiruvaiyaru, inaugurated the festival.

Noted writer, Indira Soundararajan, who was the chief guest, commended the efforts of Thushara Srinivasan.
