A fairytale love story
Contrary to its title, the film is not about film making but a modern Cinderella story.
DEBUTANTES DELIGHT Poonam makes her debut opposite Navdeep.
Believe it or not, every one of us is a dreamer at one time or the other, rejoicing in life's spiralling steps with our own screenplay snugly tucked in our minds. Some reach out to that grand canvas and some are content with just dreaming. Kuchipudi Venkat too had a dream - to direct a film. His 14-year old dream is now realised thanks to a supportive producer in Kunduru Ramana Reddy. His dream is reflected in the song he is shooting for Reddy's Abhisatvika Creations, Modhati Cinema (First Film) on ace choreographer Raju Sundaram and a couple of dancers at the Jayabheri Club in Madhapur.
The unit has moved to the sprawling Jayabheri Enclave, a conglomeration of residential apartments developed by veteran actor Murali Mohan where the recreation club is situated, after filming some portions of the song at Golconda Fort, State Art Gallery, Charminar and Basheerbagh.
"It is the theme song and sets the mood for the film," says Venkat. Choreographer Raju Sundaram directs himself and his two dance assistants after the director briefs him about the song's concept.
"Listen to the lyrics, you will understand its depth. It is a very strong and thought provoking lyric and says that it is destiny that guides you and what is in store for you will happen. It also conveys that any difficulty in life is just a passing phase.
The song is one of its kind. We felt that only a choreographer of the calibre of Raju Sundaram could deliver the goods. Swaraj's music has enriched the beauty of Seetharama Sastry's lyrics. And Raju Sundaram is giving life to the composition and the lyric."
Apart from the director, it is the first film for three others too. The svelte Poonam from Pune is making her entry into the Telugu film industry as the heroine opposite Navadeep.
Swaraj makes his debut as music director and it is the modhati cinema for producer Ramana Reddy as well.
"If you have the creativity and the ability to convincingly tell a story to the audience, then you need not slog for many years as an assistant before graduating into a director," feels Venkat. "My ambition is to provide clean entertainment to the audience through my films. Even comedy in my first attempt is more realistic and comes from the situations within the theme and not as a separate track. We have almost all the major comedians in the film."
However the director is not willing to reveal why he chose such a title as the film is not about filmmaking or a film within film. "It is a fairy-tale love story. You can call it the modern day Cindrella-type of fairy tale. It infuses optimism amidst adverse situations in life."
Among the six songs two were shot in scenic Sikkim, the first Telugu film to shoot on the Indo-China border in recent times. "We shot there taking many risks. It is worth the risk as Sameer Reddy's stunning visuals prove," chips in producer Ramana Reddy.
He is planning to release the film on October 21. Raju Sundaram is about to complete work on the song, Ninnaina Naedaina Rojannadhi Epudaina. Shankar Mahadevan's melodious rendition through the tape followed us as we walk back from the power generating outdoor unit van, parked a hundred yards away.
