"Out Of Time"
ONE OF the pleasures of watching Denzil Washington is that he often plays characters who can think three steps ahead of everyone else. In "Out Of Time," he plays a small town police guy who has to stay ahead of the team investigating murders, where he is the prime suspect. What is worse is that his ex-wife, Alex (Eva Mendes), happens to be the chief investigator and she is no dumb woman. In fact she is also someone who can think three steps ahead.
Everything happens when Matt Lee meets his old girlfriend, Anne (Saana Lathan). But then she is still married and that too to a man who can get really nasty. He commits an illegal act but with good intentions the stage is set for the intrigue to unfold.
Everything in the film is designed to keep the audience constantly surprised and wondering about Matt's seemingly questionable actions. But the director's (Carl Franklin) intention is to make the audience sympathise with him.
Denzil's performance is worthy of the role and the different kinds of tensions that he is able to convey. Saana Lathan provides the femme fatale angle to the story, while Eva Mendes as the ex-wife performs well.
