Compositions dedicated to Rama

Chaitanya Audios - Devotional - Daasharathi - O. S. Sundar - Rs. 100 — CA-II Volumes 1 and 2

CHAITANYA AUDIOS has brought out two audio cassettes of devotional music with O. S. Sundar as the lead singer.

Sundar is a talented artiste with claims to a proud musical lineage, being the son of senior vidwan O. V. Subramaniam and brother of popular vidwan O. S. Thiaagarajan.

Sundar's voice has an aesthetic resonance that is aptly suited for bhakthi sangeet.

The songs, extolling the glory of Lord Rama as the title suggests, comprise compositions of saint poets such as Bhadrachalam Ramadas, Tyagaraja, Sant Eknath, Sadashiva Brahmendra, and Udhavi Chithgnanar.

The song of Ambujam Krishna has also been included.

The support vocalists are Aravamudhan, Suresh and Chandran.

M. R. Gopinath plays mellifluously on the violin, Ramakrishnan on the harmonium, and Venkatraman, Kumar and Kannan on the mridangam, dolki and Jaira respectively.

Some of the melodic ragas that give absolute sartorial grace for the slokas, vrittams and songs are Khamas, Desh, Poorvikalyani, Durga, Keeravani, Karnaranjani, Kaapi, Hamirkalyani, Hindolam, etc.

The singing of devotional compositions in the

traditional bhajana style gives rise to the music from being just an art to reach elevated levels of bhakti, sublimity and total surrender to the Almighty.
