SWITZERLAND OFFERS decisive advantages to filmmakers. Its magnificent locations are just one aspect. Producers can also benefit from the services of the country's highly skilled and competitive workforce and a conducive administrative and fiscal environment, says Losef Renggli, Consul General of Switzerland in India. He was in Chennai recently for a presentation of the new film producers guide, "Switzerland for Movie Stars."
Talking about the close contact between India and Switzerland, Mr. Renggli said, "Indian film makers started to travel to Switzerland very early. Raj Kapoor was the first to come to our country for "Sangam" followed by Sakti Samanta for his popular song, `Akele Akele Kahan Ja Rahe Ho,' starring Shammi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore in "An Evening in Paris". Then Yash Chopra shot his "Faasle", "Chandni", "Darr", "Parampara" and "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge". More than 50 Tamil films have been shot in Switzerland. The Swiss Government is encouraging and promoting film shootings in Switzerland through "Film Location Switzerland" a Government organisation offering logistical support to film producers.
AVM. Saravanan, M. Balasubramaniam, Kamal Haasan, Babu Ganesh, Manoj Bhatnagar, Travel Masters Ramji, Nachiyappen and Mohan Sarma, president, South Indian film chamber of Commerce were among the guests who attended the programme. Mr. R. Muthu, Hon. Consul, Swiss Consulate welcomed the gathering.
