The glitter of Deepavali will be enhanced by the array of Tamil films ready for release. S. R. ASHOK KUMAR takes a look at the line-up.

NIC ARTS that gave a boost to Ajith Kumar with "Amarkalam" is coming up with "Villain" and this time it is going to be a dual role for the actor. One of the twins is bus conductor and the other is handicapped. The film will offer something different for Ajith's fans. is going to be a bit different for the Ajith Kumar fans as he is going to be showing his fighting and acting prowess. For the bus conductor the heroine is going to be Kiran and for the handicapped the lady love will be Meena. Kiran and Meena are paired with the duo. The film has an even share of sentiment and action ably put together by the director K. S. Ravikumar. Producer S. S. Chakravarthi says that it is going to be another milestone for Ajith Kumar. "For the first time he is teaming with successful director K. S. Ravikumar who has woven a story to suit the hero as well give a silver jubilee hit for our company. One can see a thorough entertainer in "Villain". The cast includes Ramesh Khanna, Pyramid Natrajan, Vijay Kumar, Rekha, Sujatha, R.Sunderrajan, Vinuchakravarthy, `Nizhalgal' Ravi, Karunas, Manobala, and Santhanabharathi. Ashok Murthy has handled the camera, Vairamuthu has written the lyrics, music is scored by Vidhyasagar, editing is done by K.Thanikachalam, art is by Sabhu Siril and stunts have been taken care of by Kanal Kannan. Thara, Ashok and Kalyan have choreographed dance. Story , screenplay, dialogue and direction are by K. S. Ravikumar.
Chimpu as hero
Cheran... director turns hero in "Solla Marantha Kathai".
T. Rajender is doing a film for his son Silambarasan (Chimpu) that has all the success elements. Chimpu Cine Arts' "Kadhal Azhivadhillai" is a love story with a message. "I am happy that the film has come out well and it will be the talk of the town as far as Chimpu is concerned. He will prove himself very well as the hero. We have not used any dupe for him in the fight scenes. He took quite a few risks in doing the fights," says Rajender. The film has seven songs, each different in its own way. ``Clinton Magalo" and ``En Manathil Neeye thann" have been shot in Switzerland. The highlight, however, is the song ``Mara Mara"' for which seven sets were erected. The stars include Charmy, Rohith, Monika, Radha Ravi, Nalini, Prakash Raj, Seetha, V. A. Murthy, Dhamu, Sudhaker, AVR, Pandu, Madan Bob, Sharmilee, Karunas, and Sukumar. Dance has been choreographed by Ashok Raja and Robert. Stunts are by T. R. Sunder. P. R. Shanmugam has done the editing and art is taken care of by Mahi. Ilakya, daughter of the director, has designed the costumes and the film is co-produced by Usha Rajender. Production executives are the brothers of T. Rajender T. Vasu and T. Pandian. Story, screenplay, dialogue, music, lyrics and direction are by T.Rajender.

Acting for Oscar Films ``Ramana," Vijayakanth appears as a professor and has two heroines, Simran and Ashima. The film, however, does not have any duet. Shooting was done in more than 400 locations. The powerful climax is sure to impress viewers of all age groups. The strength of the film is its dialogue. Next to share the honours will be Ilaiyaraaja and close on his heels comes the director. Producer Ravichandran has pinned his hopes on this film and says, ``This is a commercial film with lots of sentiment and good songs." Yugisethu, Mukesh Rishi, Vijayan, Riyas Khan, Rajesh and Baby Kalyani complete the cast. Camera has been handled by M. S. Prabhu, editing is done by Suresh Ars, art is by Maniraj, songs are written by Mu.Metha and Pazhani Bharathi, stunts are by `super' Subbarayan. The film is produced by V.Ravichandran and the story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by A.R.Murugadas.
It is the story of two brothers and their love for each other. In fact the brotherly love is shown as friendship in Laksmi Movie Makers "Bagavathi". The role offers Vijay scope to show his talent in acting. He is a teashop employee and the highlight of the film is the train fight. Vijai, Reema Sen, Ashish Vidyarthy, Monika, `Thalai Vasal' Vijai, Ilavarasu, Seema, Sathyapriya, Babi, Ugendran, K.Viswanath, Satyan, Ponnambalam and Vimal Raj are the artistes. Music is composed by Deva, dialogue is written by Pattukkottai Prabhakar, camera is handled by R. Rathnavelu, editing is done by V. T. Vijayan, stunts are composed by `Jaguar' Thangam, dance choreography is the portfolio of Brinda, Ravidev and Rajasekar. Lyrics are written by Pa.Vijai, Kalai Kumar Muthukumar and Senagan. K. Karthik is determined to satisfy his fans in "Game".
Srimasani Amman Pictures "Game" is a story of action coupled with family drama. An industrialist covets the wife of his worker, arranges to get the him killed and makes his wife his concubine. A young man who comes to the city in search of job gets to know the industrialist and stays there as his bodyguard. Does he toe the line or challenge the boss? Director John says, "This film will certainly satisfy the audience in general and Karthik fans in particular. Karthik has done some memorable fights and there is scope for him to act as well. The highlight of the film is a song sequence shot with 100 car lights. The song is sung by Anuradha Sreeram and the dance is done by `O' Podu Rani." The other artistes in the film are Radha, John, Rajashree, R. Sunderarajan, Pandu, Kashan Khan and Manikraj. Music is by S. P. Venkatesh, editing is by Krishna, camera is handled by D. Dhamu, art is by Deva, stunts are by `Dhalapathi' Dinesh. The film is produced by S. Soundara Pandi and the story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by John.
After the success of "Azhagi," Thankar Bachchan is coming out with another film "Solla Marantha kathai" for P. A. Art films. According to Bachchan, this story is also 20 years old. Sivathanu is the eldest son of an agricultural family. His parents sell their land to make him a post-graduate. Unable to find a job, he joins his parents in farming and marries a girl to fulfil their wish. How he sorts out his life and makes progress is rest of the story.
Thankar Bachchan says the entire cast is new"The hero is director Cheran and the heroine is Rathi. After hearing the story Ilaiyaraaja was so impressed that he asked Panchu Arunachalam to produce the film. He also wrote all the songs and composed the music for the film. Tamil folk singer Pushpavanam Kuppusamy has done a good role in the film. Nearly twenty new faces have been introduced. Pyramid Natrajan, Manivannan, Janakaraj, Satyapriya, Yuvarani and Satish are in the cast. Editing is by K. R. Gowrishanker, art is by Muthuraj. Balaji and Radha have choreographed dance. Stunts have been composed by Super Subbarayan. Meena Panchu Arunachalam has produced the film. Story, screenplay, dialogue, camera and direction are by Thankar Bachchan.
This is a comedy with Pandiarajan and Manzoor Alikhan in the lead. Pandiarajan is blind and Manzoor Alikhan is deaf. Into their hands fall an anthrax vial which should have gone to the villain and his gang. And they get entangled in a murder.
There is no heroine and the lead stars do not have a song. In fact the film boasts of only three songs. Senthil dons the role of a villain. Manorama does some fights. For the first time permission was granted for shooting to be held at the MGR memorial.
The cast comprises Alex, Srileka, Kumari Muthu, Vizhasini. Lyrics and music have been composed by Rockrounder. Background music is scored by S. P. Venkatesh, camera is handled by Ravi Srinivas, dance is choreographed by Ramyadav and the editing is done by V. Udayashanker. Art is by S. Arumugam.

Telivestiva Digital Ltd's "Padai Veettu Amman" is an entirely devotional film in which Meena plays Amman. The power of the deity has been narrated in an interesting way, says the producer of the film Bala. "There are some graphics and special effects shots also. The film is an interesting devotional with family sentiment, fit for viewing by all age groups. All the artistes have performed well and their contribution is noteworthy. The highlight of the film is a song and dance by Meena as Amman and Devayani that is sure to impress the viewer. Nearly 15 minutes of special effects and particularly various creatures (vultures, dinosaurs and bizarre insects) chasing the villain will be a treat to watch. The songs of S. A. Rajkumar will be an aural treat," says director Pugazhmani, who has also written the story, screenplay and dialogue. Meena, Ramki, Devayani, Ravali, `Nizhalgal' Ravi, Senthil, Vinu Chakravarthi, K. R. Vathsala and P. R. Varalakshmi are the main artistes. Camera is handled by Baby Philips, music is scored by S. A. Raj Kumar, editing is done by Baburaj, dances are choreographed by Lalitha Mani.
