Cool version of a superhit

The "Ice unit... sure of success.

IT IS not unusual to come across a director who is confident about the success of the film he is making. But R. Raghu Raj, director of ``Ice," is sure that his film will be an outstanding success. Afterall, he is making his own Telugu super hit movie, ``Kalusu Kovalani,'' in Tamil. The Telugu film ran to packed houses for more than 150 days in Andhra Pradesh. The director is taking all steps to ensure that the Tamil version has all the ingredients to make it a hit. One caught up with the crew at the YMCA playground where shooting was on.

The heroine was doing a folk dance number. Director Raghu Raj is a photojournalist, who has worked with various magazines. He did not actually have a stint as assistant director under anyone work but was with editor Lenin for more than three years. His first break was ``Sakthi,'' which was recently shown on a local satellite channel. After that he made the Telugu film and now it is back to Tamil with ``Ice."It is a love story in which ice plays a major role, being the cause of the lovers' separation and their reunion. In order to choose an outdoor location, the director sought the help of the Internet and downloaded all the pictures which had snow-bound places in Europe. Normally one would go to a foreign location to shoot only songs. But for the first time I am going to shoot some 20 scenes in Austria, Italian Alps mountain, Venice, Vienna, Salzberg and Innsprug just to capture the ice," says Raghu Raj proudly.

The hero of the film is new find Ashok, who was born in Pondicherry, brought up in Singapore and now working in the film in Chennai. He has had some stage experience.

The heroine is Priyanka Trivedi who paired with Vijayakanth in ``Rajjiyam'' with Ajit in ``Raja'' and is now working with Vikram in ``Athisayam."

She has done a couple of films in Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and she was the heroine of the super hit Bengali movie ``Hotath Brishti'' directed by Basu Chatterji, which was the remake of Tamil super hit ``Kadal Kottai." Haripriya, Vivek, Mouli, Yuvarani, Madan Bob, R. Sundararajan, Devan, Anumohan and Pandu are the other artistes.

Camera is by Sri, music is by Devi Sriprasad, editing is by V. T. Vijayan, dance is by Cool Jayanth, stunts are by Stunt Siva and lyrics are by Arivumathi, Yugabharathi, Kapilan and Thamarai.

The film is produced by Sherif and the story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by R. Raghuraj.
