Twists and turns
A PALATIAL building at the boat club was the hub of activity with cars entering and leaving the gate. A peep inside revealed a round table with Seetha seated on a chair. Satyaraj, in a not so young man's get-up, was trying to console her. Director A. Jawahar who is wielding the megaphone for the first time is all concentration. ``This is a powerful subject with a message," begins Jawahar, who has also written the story and screenplay. ``The protagonist is in the age 45-50 group. I wanted Satyaraj to do the film and my producer Pankaj Metha concurred with me. And Satyaraj agreed to do it. The film is about a law abiding citizen. The students of the State do not want a man to be hanged. Does he go to the gallows? In the second reel which, incidentally, will also have the climax, the truth is revealed. But it is from here that the story moves on with twists and turns," the director says. The hero's name in the film is Manimaran. Thereby hangs a tale. The film was first named Sivaji. But request came from the sons of the late Sivaji Ganesan to change the title as they were making a film on their legend father also with the same title. And the makers obliged. Another highlight is of course that Seetha is making a comeback after nearly 12 years. ``I am doing only a single role but I come in different getups. My good friend Manivannan's son is making his debut as an actor in this film," said Satyaraj. The cast has Sarathbabu, `Thalaivasal' Vijai, Rajkapoor, Ilavarasan, V. M. C. Hanifa, Delhi Ganesh and Robert. Dialogue is written by Pattukottai Prabhakar, camera is handled by the U.K. Senthil Kumar, music is composed by Deva and lyrics are written by Pa.Vijai.
