Homage to Music Trinity
THE ONE week Jayanthi festival of the Music Trinity Sri Tyagaraja, Shyama Sastri and Muthuswamy Dikshitar organised by the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peeta Karnataka Sangeetha Seva Trust at Tiruvarur, between April 15 and April 21 provided rare opportunity for music lovers.
The festival started with the Jayanti of Shyama Sastri on April 15. Senior musician Mrs. Sulochana Pattabhiraman and her disciples rendered the kritis of the composer at the saint's residence. The musician was also honoured for her exemplary service to Carnatic music by the trust on the same day. The Jayanthi of Sri Tyagaraja, which fell on April 20, was celebrated at the saint's residence. S. P. Ramh and the disciples of Lalgudi Jayaraman rendered the Pancharatna kritis. Literary discourse by Dr. Sudha Seshaiyan and Prof. Rajagopalan were the other highlights.
The festival came to an end with a procession of the idols of the Trinity in a tastefully decorated chariot in a procession through the main car streets of Tiruvarur on April 21.
According to V. Balasubramanian, Trust's co-ordinator for the festival, the trust maintains the houses of the Trinity and also organises the festival.
