Going places, literally
"A DANGEROUS game is about to begin", scream the promos. "Aankhen", a Gaurang Doshi production, directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah promises much a hitherto untold, unseen, unique story with an incredible galaxy. What else could it be with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Arjun Rampal, with Sushmita Sen and Bipasha Basu to add to the glitter!
The world premiere of "Aankhen" is to take place today (April 5) at Genting Highlands, Malaysia, for the India International Film Academy (IIFA). Interestingly, "Lagaan" too had been premiered here. And if the Bachchan feels that this could be a harbinger of great things for "Aankhen", the sentiment is quite understandable. Who can forget the Oscar frenzy that "Lagaan" triggered?
We've heard of real life incidents inspiring reel life happenings. This is the other way round. After shooting for a scene for "Thamizhan", Vijay says he has been inspired to try his hand at writing. The shot involved lyricist Vairamuthu and producer GV releasing a book written by the hero. So in all probability another creative side of this singer-actor could come to the fore soon. Incidentally, the film's advert is bound to attract attention. The posters splashed all over the State have faces of several Tamils put together to create the `face' of the "Thamizhan" hero. Symbolic, so to say. If only these exercises in innovation have been effectively translated into celluloid, this "Thamizhan" will sure go places. The latest is that the producer of the film, GV, is so taken in by the imaginative nature of the ad that he is planning to send it for the contest for the Best Poster.
Gazala new heroine of "University".
A new University
Many things about "University" seem new. For starters, the lead pair Gazala, from Mumbai, and Jeevan. And lending support are veterans like Raghuvaran and Vivek. Ramesh Vinayagam is the composer expectations are rather high on this score as Ramesh is one of the five composers of the Shaam-Sneha starrer directed by Vasanth, "Aey! Nee Romba Azhaga Irukkae". Along with the well known Raju Sundaram, Thara and Kalyan, Sridhar makes his debut as choreographer in "University". And significantly, this is the first film for director Prahadeesh. Maayapuri Screens' "University", they promise, has all the makings of an entertainer with the scene of action being a University campus. Sounds youthful right away.
Success and sentiment
Playback singer Harish Raghavendra, you can say, is really famous many of the nearly 100 songs he has sung have been hits. But that's not all Astro Vanavil, a Malaysian television channel has invited Harish and composer Harris Jeyaraj to judge their music show. Commendable indeed.
While on Harish, what he says about his hits is rather intriguing his numbers that have appeared as the first on Side A of an audiocassette have almost always been very popular! Be it "Shahjahan", "Majnu", "Bharathi" or "Minnalae". The sentiments that run riot in cinema can never fail to surprise us folks!
When is the mind truly happy and at peace in old age, before marriage, after it, in youth or in childhood? This will be the topic of discussion at a happy and joyous Poetry Forum to be telecast on STAR Vijay this Tamil New Year's Day. Vairamuthu will head this enjoyable session that will include Muthiah, Andal Priyadarshini, Pazha. Pugazhendhi, Kanimozhi and Kabilan Vairamuthu.
